I would create a .tpl template file specially for usage on the page with the module. And insert the new menu code only in that template instead of the normal menu. The syntax for the navigation is:

{$var|getnavigation[:type[:parentId[:depth[:excludeIds-splitted-by-dash]]]]}

And then use some clever css & js to make a mega menu of it... That's how I would do it probably
