Search page disappears with custom theme?

I'm working on a custom responsive theme, and for some reason when I try to use the search, the server returns a 500 error. When I switch back to Triton the search works just as it normally does. The theme I'm working on is based on the Triton theme and I haven't adjusted anything when it comes to the search so any suggestions?
